Deposit Return Scheme for drinks containers
Environment Minister Rebecca Pow announced on 20 January 2023 that a deposit return scheme is set to be introduced in 2025. The target is to collect over 85% of returnable drinks containers once the scheme is running. Special machines, known as reverse vending machines in designated sites would let people return their bottles and receive cash back. In most cases retailers who sell drinks covered by the scheme would have the machines in store - click here for more information.
